Acantholimon


Acantholimon (Prickly thrift) is a genus of small flowering plants within the plumbago or leadwort family, Plumbaginaceae. They are distributed from southeastern Europe to central Asia and also in South America, but also cultivated elsewhere in rock gardens.

Species
Acantholimon göksunicum is a species of plant belonging to the family Plumbaginaceae. It is only found on calcareous steppes in southeastern Anatolia (Turkey). This is a very small, low shrublet with scapes of up to 8 cm bearing two-branched spikes of pink flowers in July.

Acantholimon köycegizicum is a species of plant belonging to the family Plumbaginaceae. It is only found in coastal regions of southwestern Anatolia (Turkey), often associated with forests of Turkish Pine. This is a robust, rather spiny shrublet which produces dense spikes of pink flowers borne on long (up to 30 cm) scapes. Flowering occurs in July and August.
