Genista
Genista is a genus of legumes which includes many species of broom. Many of these brooms are notorious as noxious weeds.

Genista aetnensis or Mount Etna Broom is a large shrub or small tree endemic to the island of Sicily where it is a very common constituent of the garigue communities around the lower slopes of Mount Etna. Young plants are typical of brooms but as they age the shrubs develop into small trees with a greenish bark. Flowering is in late summer.

Genista canariensis is a species of broom known by the common name Canary broom, or Canary Islands broom. It is native to the Canary Islands, but it grows as an introduced species in mainland Europe, especially Spain, and on other continents. This is a legume shrub with hairy green stems. The leaves are made up of oval-shaped leaflets each up to a centimeter long and densely hairy on the undersides. The raceme inflorescence holds up to 20 bright yellow pealike flowers. The fruit is a legume pod one to two centimeters long containing several dark brown seeds.
Genista linifolia is a species of broom known by the common names flax broom and Mediterranean broom. It is native to southwestern Europe, North Africa, and the Canary Islands, but it can be found on other continents in areas of similar climate, such as California in the United States, and parts of Australia. This is a shrub with hairy green stems and branches which can exceed two meters in height. Its leaves are made up of tough, green, lance-shaped leaflets with woolly undersides. Flowers appear in dense raceme inflorescences toward the ends of the branches. The flowers are bright yellow and pealike. The fruit is a hairy legume pod one to four centimeters long containing several seeds.

Genista stenopetala (Sweet Broom or Easter Broom; syn. Genista spachiana, Cytisus spachianus) is a broom native to the Canary Islands, on La Palma and Tenerife. It is an evergreen shrub growing to 3 m tall. The leaves are trifoliate, the leaflets 1-3 cm long, narrow elliptic, coated with fine silky, silvery hairs. The flowers are yellow, 1-2 cm long, produced in racemes 5-11 cm long. The fruit is a pod 2-3 cm long.
