Malcolmia

Malcolmia is a genus from the family Brassicaceae. Species from this genus are native to Europe and Africa.

Several species are cultivated for their flowers, these include Virginian stock (Malcolmia maritima).

Species
Malcolmia africana (African mustard) is an annual plant from the Mediterranean Basin which has naturalized elsewhere and is invasive in Nevada and Utah.

Malcolmia maritima - Virginia stock is a popular annual garden plant from the family Brassicaceae. A beautiful and profusely flowering annual, it is probably one of the easiest of all plants to grow. Growing to about 1 inch tall, it makes a mass of pink, purple and white fragrant four petalled (cruciform) flowers. For best results in growing Virginia stock, sow on the surface in patches or rows and thin the young plants to 6 inches apart.
